Building on event & speaking skills; DevRel has a new home at Fireside with Voxgig Podcast
Fireside with Voxgig podcast has evolved. But we continue to let our guests do the talking. It's all part of their day job!
Since the autumn, I’ve slightly changed the focus of my Fireside with Voxgig podcast. I say slightly, because while we have moved to a much more DevRel, developer relations, developer advocacy focus, a major part of each guest’s job is to communicate; often involving public speaking. This means that many of the tips and tricks to be found in our archive of fascinating episodes with public speakers, event facilitators and event organisers, resonate with our DevRel guests! In fact, in the most recent episode with Daniel Bryant, we actually discussed April Dunford’s positioning work (detailed in episode 39).
Find all of our episodes on our refreshed website www.voxgig.com/podcast where you can browse the collection.
Here’s a recap of our most recent DevRel focused episodes, to be found here:
Episode 69: Joe Drumgoole of MongoDB gave us great analysis of the duel perspective required when selling to developers, that is, consider the economic buyer but also, the long term relationship with the developer using your software.
Episode 70: Asim Aslam of M30 a proven microservices expert gave an honest account of the challenges and opportunities when commercialising open source projects. His experiences as an open source maintainer and entrepreneur are laid bare as a generous guide to others.
Episode 71: In this episode I got to catch up with my friend and former colleague Matteo Collina of Platformatic. Matteo opens up about his super power when it comes to hiring developers with a broad system-wide view! And then once you hire, how can you make DevRel flourish in your organisation.
Episode 72: I also got to talk with an interesting Irish start up Evervault’s Eoin Boylan. He explained their approach to DevRel, which sounds very high touch, but it’s effective so at the moment, it’s a winner!
Episode 74: Earlier this month Suze Shardlow of Redis spoke about where in an organisation DevRel should actually sit (spoiler: it depends!). But she and I discuss the “depends” in depth and outline things, and most especially questions, to consider while you plan DevRel activities in your organisation.
Episode 75: Finally just last week we published my recent conversation with Daniel Bryant of Ambassador Labs. Daniel and I chatted about the changing nature of swag at conferences, and indeed the changing nature of software sales and why developer relations, done well and meaningfully, is so important. We also discuss community, and why it really needs to be real.
Have a safe & peaceful Christmas and join us again in the New Year when I talk to more experienced and exciting developer relations professionals to see what works for them!
