From digital transformation to career transformation, our guests have you covered.
Listen to Joan Mulvihill and Alvin Bryan on important first steps.
It’s January. We’re a little daunted by the potential of the year ahead. We know that change is going to happen (change is, in fact, the only constant). So be it a digital transformation in your organisation or an evolution in your career, we have the podcast for you!
In the first two episodes of 2023 our Fireside with Voxgig guests ask and try to answer some great questions to help you kick start your professional plans for the year.
Joan Mulvihill is Digitalisation & Sustainability Lead at Siemens, working with their Xcelerator platform to help organisations transform - appropriately.
Alvin Bryan is Developer Advocate with Contentful and a coach with Codebar. He’s committed to community and helping coders develop - a natural developer advocate.
What’s the value outcome?
In my conversation with Joan Mulvihill we chatted about many things (she is, afterall, a multitalented speaker, facilitator, landscape artist and now in her role with Siemens, a “Digitalisation Coach”)! A vital question Joan asks organisations seeking a digital transformation of any shape or size is “What’s the value outcome?”. Breathtakingly simple and complex all at once. It forces people to think about what their organisation, people and customers actually need: a faster horse, a car or “something else”.
Listen to the full conversation here and be motivated to ask questions that will unlock your change project.
Find out more about the interesting Siemens Xcelerator platform and how Joan and her colleagues can help you discover your own answer to the “What’s the value outcome?” question.
Career evolution
Alvin Bryan and I chatted about his move from frontend developer to developer advocate with Contentful. We discover the importance that contributing to Community in development can make to your options as you think about changing your career.
This contribution to Community, in our opinion, is sadly not as supported by companies as we would like. Is time off for side projects enough? What about opening your office as a venue for meetups? Would there be benefits to embracing a local developer Community?
You can hear our full conversation here.
We have lots more interesting #DevRel and tech industry guests lined up to chat to us over the coming weeks and months. If you’d like to be a guest or would like to recommend someone, email me Richard@voxgig.com.
