Inaugural Dublin DevRel Meetup
Voxgig is sponsoring a new DevRel meetup; the Dublin DevRel meetup. Join us!
On February 28th, after some planning and preparing, I hosted the inaugural Dublin DevRel Meetup. For information on the new development, visit here: https://www.devrelmeetup.com/
Why a DevRel meetup?
As I wrote, meetups changed my life. Literally.
I ended up writing a book about microservices because of one meetup talk by the amazing coder That one talk changed the way I code. You never know when something will just click. Just one little meetup talk.
Meetups also allowed me to meet and work with some amazing collaborators and colleagues. That, also, has changed my life for the better, and made my projects and startups successful. I wish I had gone to meetups sooner and earlier. A meetup also generates a community. It validates your interests and choice of career. If you're hiring, it shows you the candidates who actually "turn up". If you're looking for a new role, it shows you the companies that "get it".
Infrastructure
We chose Vito as the streaming service for the event and are indebted to Paul Campbell and his team for their support - DevRel in action! The event Hub, Q&A functionality and live in-browser streaming were great, so we’ll be using this again. Check out how we were able to present ourselves to our audience on the evening: https://vi.to/hubs/dublindevrel
The talks
You can read about the speakers and listen to the individual talks here: https://www.devrelmeetup.com/devrel-meetup/feb28th2023-suze-shardlow-and-eoin-boylan
Suze kicked things off wit a wonderful talk on the 7 Ps of marketing. Years ago I did a business course and there were only 5 Ps, but the extra two can make all the difference! Her in-depth knowledge of marketing, coding and DevRel informs this excellent talk. But it is also a challenge to those in DevRel; do you have a strategy or are you just moving from one tactic to the next? Listen to this talk to find out which you are doing - and why you should probably improve your strategy!
Eoin described Evervault’s high-touch developer onboarding process; a process that most companies would baulk at. But it works. In fact, it’s working really well, and I can vouch for it having benefitted from their private Slack channels while implementing Evervault for a mutual client. And Evervault have discovered that for them, the answer to “Where does DevRel sit in an organisation?” is “at the centre”. Their DevRel activities support sales, customer retention and that feeds in to product….which improves sales….and customer retention…see where we’re going with this?
