Meetup report, guide to public speaking & a revamp of our image style guide
...someone in the office signed up for Midjourney.
If you follow our COO Sinead Quealy on Mastodon, you may have spotted the large ginger tom cat that supervises her work. So can you guess who’s been playing with Midjourney in the office this week? In a few months, we’ll be able to look back at our collection of newsletters and very clearly spot the arrival of the new image style guide. In brief, the guide reads “whimsical, with a side of tech”. Midjourney obliges.
Public Speaking 101 with Oisin Lunny
Looking back at our collection of podcasts, I was able to resurrect this episode from 2019. In it I chat to Oisin Lunny, award winning speaker, MC and marketer. I needed to bring it back to your attention because in recent podcasts where I spoke to DevRel professionals, the part of the DevRel job that most had struggled with was public speaking. With in person conferences very much back in full swing, I felt many DevRels would benefit from a back-to-basics public speaking refresher. No better person to turn to than Oisin.
Building a DevRel culture throughout an organisation
Last week Alex Lakatos provided a masterclass in how to ask for help in an organisation - and make sure you get it. Tips include, make the help part of everyone’s existing metrics! Become CTO to ensure executive buy in - ok, this last one is earned after years of experience. But Alex does make a good central point: ask for help for the good of EVERYONE in the company. His meetup performance at the Dublin DevRel meetup was fab, and can be viewed and learned from at any stage by viewing it on YouTube.
In fact, all of the previous meetups providing lots of nuggets of wisdom for DevRel professionals can be found on the dedicated meetup site: https://www.devrelmeetup.com/previous-meetups
