Militant Youth Hats, Twitch & Meetup update
We spoke to Maria Ashby and Salma Alam Naylor recently. Varied, interesting & motivational conversations. To borrow a phrase, their attitude to DevRel and life seems to be "Just do it!".
I’ve been ramping up podcast production recently, expanding from one episode each Thursday to two episodes each week - Tuesday & Thursday. It affords me the opportunity to talk to twice as many interesting and helpful guests.
Maria Ashby
Maria blew my mind - she’s young, filled with mission-centric passion and an impatience for change that gave me a real shot of energy. She has taught Python to kids, is a developer advocate for BotKude and explained about Kubeshop
After the initial technical part of our chat, Maria and I broadened the conversation to role models, the thriving tech scene in Nigeria, and Maria’s belief that, thankfully, the tech industry is (finally) becoming much more diverse. I’ve been waiting for this since the late ‘90s when I joined this industry.
For the developer relations professionals or team managers reading this, the values of diversity on a manifesto won’t mean anything without actions. You may need to borrow Maria’s “militant youth hat” - she wears it well, and you can too!
Salma Alam-Naylor
In our tradition of giving you tools & tips you can use, Salma joins us to describe her warts ’n’ all experiences with live streaming - in particular with Twitch.
This is gold for anyone considering trying their hand at some building in public, or exploring livestreaming as a way of increasing community engagement . An important thing to remember - forget metrics. Don’t count viewers in a LINEAR fashion. Let Salma explain; listen here, or wherever you get your podcasts.
