The frustrating challenge of metrics in DevRel
Jason St-Cyr talks about the butterfly effect of DevRel.

You need data driven charts and metrics. You have the “fuzziness” of helping people, community, developers and for profit companies sell software. Welcome to DevRel!
This week Jason St-Cyr talks to me in our Fireside with Voxgig podcast about his remarkable insights and experiences in DevRel at Sitecore. We explore how DevRel works at very large organisations. Jason is Developer Relations Leader at Sitecore, one of the largest digital experience providers in the world. With such a large ecosystem, it’s no wonder that DevRel looks different here than in a SaaS start-up! Jason tells us about ambassador programmes, the starting point for his career in DevRel. And he shares his metaphor of DevRel professionals with us – do you see yourself as a human router? Maybe you should! We also cover developer portals that work.
But of huge interest and relevance are Jason’s approach to metrics and measurement of DevRel impact. It’s the old chestnut, isn’t it? How do we communicate effectively to senior leaders within an organisation the benefits we as a team of advocates bring to the organisation? Our work of community building and conferences can appear “fuzzy”.
Let Jason help you add some definition to the fuzziness.
And don’t forget to sign up to attend the next Dublin DevRel meetup (online) on Wednesday April 26th at 6pm Irish time. Find out more and register at our dedicated website. Or join direct on the night with no registration via Vi.to. Jason’s talk on the night will be dedicated to how to build a career path for your team of DevRel professionals.
We look forward to your questions! Drop me a line at Richard@voxgig.com if you’d like to be a guest or suggest speakers for the meetup.
